1920
During this time, films were shown in black and white and without sound. Being able to express oneself with the face was therefore of the utmost importance for the actors. For female actors, it helped to highlight their brows with a long, thin and round shape. As motion pictures spread around the world, women everywhere wanted to emulate this dramatic look and plucked their brows feverishly.
1930
Like the 1920s, women wanted their brows to have a long, round shape, but this time they wanted them to be both fuller and have a distinct arch. They became even more daring by painting their brows dark to create a real "statement look".
1940
Inspired by the strong look of the 30s, women continued to maintain fuller and longer brows. This decade, however, they wanted to make this look a little more natural. Instead, they used a very light hand over their eyebrows when painting them and wanted to have their brows in a lighter shade. 
1950
Inspired by icons like Marilyn Monroe, the 50s were defined by full yet neat brows. They would have a clear and marked arc and a defined ending. Women here began to dare to experiment more with makeup but wanted their brows to look natural.
1960
During this decade, the model Twiggy turned the fashion world upside down and so did the eyebrow trend. The 60s were defined by marked and long lashes, while people wanted to keep their brow shape short and unmarked.
1970
Another decade follows where eyebrows are left in the background. Heavily made-up eyelashes and eyes were instead the priority and people plucked their brows more to emphasize a colorful and strong eye shadow. The shape was slightly longer than the short one during the 60s, but people continued to mark their brows with paint.
1980
After 20 years of being in the shadows, eyebrows were now back in full force! During the 80s, the brows were allowed to grow out and you would have a full, natural and wild look. People liked to mark their brows further with a darker color.
1990
From bushy and big, the brow trend for the 90s does a complete turnaround. Like Twiggy in the 60s, a young Kate Moss enters the fashion scene in the early 90s and with her thin eyebrows, she causes a whole generation to pluck their brows into thin lines. With the tweezers in full swing, they instead put away their eyebrow pencil and kept their natural color instead.
2000
At the turn of the millennium, the trend of thin eyebrows was still going strong. Now, however, they took out their eyebrow pencil again and began to mark their brows hard, which only emphasized the thin shape even more.
2010
Many women enter the next decade with plucked brows and like a breath of fresh air, the next trend will be a natural and fuller brow look. Now people (those who still can...) let their brows grow out and dare to play around with both color and brushing the hair in different directions.
2020
With the progress of digital development in the last twenty years where tutorials on social media and information over the internet are more easily accessible, women have begun to understand the importance of finding the brow look that suits them best. How we shape and color our brows can really define the rest of our face and although trends are fun, the most important thing in the end is finding your own personal favorite style.
