Common mistakes when coloring eyebrows at home

Vanliga misstag när man färgar bryn hemma

Dyeing your brows at home can be both a time- and cost-effective way to achieve a stylish look without having to visit a salon. It can especially be a good idea now during the summer when you like to spend less time on styling and more time to enjoy long-awaited time off. Our award-winning home tinting box Brow Tint makes it easier than ever to tint your brows at home, but as a beginner it can often feel a little nerve-wracking. Here we've rounded up some common mistakes when tinting your brows at home - so you can avoid making them!

Careless with cleaning

Before coloring your brows, it is important to prepare the surrounding area in order to achieve your desired result. Make sure you've removed make-up and impurities using a gentle, oil-free cleanser to ensure the brow color adheres evenly across your hair.

Choosing the wrong color

One of the most critical factors in successful at-home coloring is choosing the right color. Choosing a shade that is too dark can easily create an unnatural and harsh look, while a shade that is too light will disappear in a day. To avoid this, it is important that you carefully review both your hair color and skin. A general recommendation is that you choose one to two shades darker if you have dark hair, and if you have light hair, you should choose a shade that either matches your hair color or is one shade darker.

Dyes brows immediately after picking

The fact that you choose to dye your brows immediately after you have plucked them to the desired shape may sound logical, but is actually something that can lead to irritation. In connection with plucking your brows, you also open up sensitive hair follicles, and getting brow dye in them can therefore lead to infection in the worst case. It is therefore better to pluck the brows after you have dyed the brows, then you will also see more clearly all the strands that are otherwise not visible, which can make it easier to get the shape!

Uneven application

Another common mistake when coloring at home is not applying the color equally to both brows. Make sure you apply the color evenly over your brows, and that you cover all the hairs. To be sure that your color will be as even as possible, it is also a good idea to time the time between brows. This is so that you know how long you should wait to remove the color from your second brow and thus get the same color on both brows. Our Brow Tint kit comes with a flush brush that facilitates application and helps you get an even result.

Careless after treatment

Taking care of your dyed brows after dyeing is important to get a good final result, and also for the longevity of the brows. Avoid washing your face immediately after coloring to prevent the color from coming off too soon. You should also avoid cleansing products that contain oil or exfoliating properties as they can cause your color to fade faster. To make your colored brows last longer, it may be a good idea to use a serum that binds the moisture in your sensitive hairs.
